The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, high-level disinfection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of clean and sterile surgical instruments, trays, and pans. This includes operating sterilization equipment, inspecting instruments, maintaining inventory, and ensuring quality assurance of sterile supplies.

Responsibilities:
- Inspects, assembles, packages, and sterilizes surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, technical equipment, and surgical case carts.
- Operates steam sterilizers, checks gauges, and loads/unloads sterilizers.
- Performs simple maintenance of sterilizers.
- Prepares cultures, reviews test packs, interprets results, and completes documentation to assure sterility.
- Checks and adjusts medical equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Decontaminates surgical instruments and equipment following established procedures.
- Sets up decontamination equipment, cleans and disinfects equipment and work area, and handles infectious waste.
- Receives and stores supplies, checks stock against requisitions, documents stock received, and reports discrepancies.
- Documents and fills orders for surgical supplies and delivers supplies when warranted.
- Maintains records of equipment inventory use, servicing frequency, and equipment requiring repair.
- Performs daily quality assurance checks on stock levels, sterility dates, and accuracy of procedure carts.
- Maintains critical documentation such as biologicals and sterilizer load sheets.
- Answers unit phone and directs calls accordingly.
- Performs data entry into electronic medical database systems and documents patient care and related duties appropriately.
- Performs selected patient registration activities.
- Coordinates equipment/supply needs and notifies appropriate department of equipment malfunction.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Certified Sterile Processor (HSPA or CBSPD)
- BLS (American Heart Association ONLY)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician
- Large hospital experience (500+ beds)
- Travel experience (6 months)
- Two professional references from the last two assignments
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Level 1 trauma center experience
- Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER Cert)
- Orthopedic tray experience
Special Considerations:
- Must be able to obtain a TB skin test.
Scheduling:
- Night shift, Monday-Friday, 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM
- 40 hours/week
