Job Title: Control Systems Designer.

Location: Houston, TX.
Job Type: Contract.
Start Date: August 2025.

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Control Systems Designer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will provide operational supervision, technical guidance, and leadership within a medium-sized design group supporting complex engineering projects across multiple industries. You will be responsible for overseeing the development of 2D and 3D CAD models, control system layouts, and construction drawings, while ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and project requirements.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role that combines design expertise with team management and project coordination responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and guide designers and drafters in developing detailed designs and 2D/3D CAD models for control systems projects.
• Assign work, set schedules, and determine staffing needs to meet project requirements.
• Coordinate the preparation of layouts, study drawings, and construction deliverables.
• Develop work plans and schedules including estimating material quantities, staffing needs, and design deliverables.
• Review, endorse, or prepare technical reports and progress documentation.
• Supervise the preparation of material requisitions and bid evaluations.
• Monitor design activities for compliance with applicable codes, engineering practices, and design standards.
• Conduct job site visits to resolve design issues and interpret drawings.
• Manage scope changes, design documentation, and technical client communications.
• Support the implementation and standardization of design procedures and drafting protocols.
• Maintain current knowledge of CAD tools and client-standard applications (BSAPs).
• Coordinate and facilitate training and performance evaluations for assigned personnel.
• Engage with project engineers, procurement teams, vendors, and clients to resolve design or technical issues.

Qualifications and Skills:

Basic Qualifications:

• Degree in a job-related engineering or scientific discipline or completion of specialized design/drafting courses with equivalent industry experience.
• Extensive experience in control systems design, drafting, and personnel management.
• Strong knowledge of design techniques, engineering documentation, drawing interpretation, and CAD standards.
• Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD tools (AutoCAD, SmartPlant, MicroStation, etc.).
• Working knowledge of relevant engineering codes, regulatory standards, and industry design practices.
• Familiarity with bulk material procurement processes and quantity tracking.
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and team coordination skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience using the companies' Standard Application Programs (SAPs) or similar project management tools.
• Previous experience leading control systems design teams on large-scale infrastructure, industrial, or process-related projects.
• Strong communication and client-facing skills to represent the discipline in project meetings or technical discussions.
